When I turned fifty I decided that I should have a life’s mission and declared, at least to myself, that it should be to advocate and to promote the enormous pleasures of photography.  

This image of the young boy looking through a telescope is one of hundreds of photographs I have collected over the past forty years.  This one has a timeless Boys’ Life quality.  I am always in search of transcendence.  Every so often a picture will offer a gut punch of pleasure, recognition, or empathy; it is reason to keep looking.   

The world is full of good, very good, photographs.  The great ones are what interest me.  

Photography changed my life; it gave me one.
